Liz Glennon is a Licensed Professional Counselor with a Master of Arts in Holistic Counseling from New York City and an EMDRia Certified EMDR therapist. From the Bronx to Brooklyn to Denver, Liz has worked with hundreds of teens, parents and families through their journey to change. Beginning her career in rehabilitation for juvenile offenders, Liz refined her ability to connect with people from all cultures and backgrounds. She spent years working within the social service system, diverse family systems and leading teams through intensive, in-home family therapy. As she supervised teams of adolescent and family therapists, Liz also personally developed programs that trained therapists to competently and skillfully engage others in authentic change utilizing evidence-based practices. Later, her career moved into outpatient individual and family work where she was able to diversify her skill set to include sand tray technique, attachment and somatic techniques, further her skills with high-risk teens and lead various skills groups for teens and their parents. Finally, for the last few years, Liz has been working exclusively with gifted children and teens. Whether Liz is working with adults or adolescents and between years of experience and training found in both New York and Colorado, she has witnessed countless transformations.
"My counseling style is down to earth, personable, and humorous. The growth process can be difficult and I believe laughter is incredibly important along the way. I find it important to bring my own humanity into the counseling process- without a human connection present you might as well read a self-help book! I care deeply about making my clients feel at home in the space where we practice growth. I also believe that good therapy meets your needs and gives you the confidence to go on without me. In other words, I'm trying to put myself out of a job with every client I meet.
Whether your struggle is with anxiety, depression, relationships, self-destructive behaviors or on a fertility journey, you are not without hope. Through my extensive training in CBT, DBT, EMDR, IFS, mindfulness, trauma, childhood development and Family Systems, I have become adept at getting to the root of people's pain. I take a systemic approach and collaborate with key relationships and systems in my client's lives whenever possible. My work is strength-focused: instead of focusing on your deficits, I find strengths that already exist and use them as the stepping stones to growth. I focus on creating a safe, trusting relationship with you to begin the therapeutic process and quickly move into creating a comprehensive treatment plan with clear goals and indicators for graduation. I believe that everyone has the ability to reach their goals and am passionate about supporting others through it."
